Outdoor Learning
At Oakwood we believe that children should be encouraged to observe and protect the wonder of nature, understanding the impact that humans can have on their environment and growing into responsible, caring adults. For this reason, we place great importance on outdoor education.
We are lucky to have a beautiful setting, including our own woodland walk and a fantastic outdoor classroom. Our pupils enjoy using these green spaces in a wide variety of ways. Teachers regularly take classroom learning outside, giving children the chance to apply their skills in a different and engaging context.
All pupils in the Pre-prep enjoy Forest School sessions taught by an accredited Forest School leader. These sessions see the children spending a whole afternoon in the woods, undertaking activities such as treasure hunts, flower and tree identification, as well as learning practical skills that help develop fine and gross motor skills. Sessions often include a campfire and special Forest School snack!
